Thank you I'ina! Was down on the same river today and the ice is almost gone...so we are slowly starting to thaw out.

Wonderful shot, Gary. What a catch. My chuckle for the day. Very nice composition. They are starting to check out nesting sites at our wildlife refuge and hilarious with their noisy arguments.

Do you think one could get it's feet stuck roosting on that ice over night? Good capture Gary!

Gary Wing replied:

I wondered the same thing..the day I was down hiking the temperature was 8 degrees with strong winds. There were quite a few Geese huddled on the ice with there heads buried beneath their wings. Thanks for looking Gail!

Retiring in 2011, he returned to photography which he developed a love for in the early 70’s but could never seem to find time for. His photos have been featured on the cover of Bee Culture Magazine, in Range Magazine, and the 2010 book Capture Central Oregon. He recently had a showing at Smith Rock State Park. He has also shown at the Redmond Library,...
