A female Bushtit is photographed in a flowering crab apple tree while searching for insects. These Bushtits come through my place here in spring and fall usually in groups of twenty to thirty and are always fun to try to get photos of. They are very active and always on the move, feeding on insects on the bottom of leaves and often seen hanging upside down. I had fun today chasing these guys around for and hour or two,
Gary Wing was born in western Montana and as a child he enjoyed roaming the Rocky Mountains on foot or on horseback. In 1959 his family moved to Redmond, Oregon and he developed a love for the high desert and the Cascade Mountains. Graduating from Redmond High in 1964 he went on to Oregon State University and then worked as a ranch manager and wildlife biologist with the Federal government. Retiring in 2011, he returned to photography which he developed a love for in the early 70’s but could never seem to find time for. His photos have been featured on the cover of Bee Culture Magazine, in Range Magazine, and the 2010 book Capture Central Oregon. He recently had a showing at Smith Rock State Park.
